As stated before, when we bought this place there was no house. The house had burned down many years ago, sometime in the late 1970's I believe. We have been living in a 25' travel trailer. Sometimes we have running water, sometimes not. Sometimes there is hot water, and then there are times when one has to boil water. And there are times when it is just plain tiring. I felt I had to live here through all the seasons, experience the blowing of the wind, the angles of the sun, the different seasons with trees in full leaf, then the woods in total nakedness. I've experienced torrential rainfall, and then watched the ponds overflow, the seasonal streams run and springs bubbling up. I looked for a view, for dry land and for a location that would not require relocation of the power, water and telephone services. I also had to avoid 2 power lines that were put up before we bought. What I discovered was that my best paddock for my sheep was actually the best place for the house. "Well now," I thought, "that's simply not going to work." The more I thought about it, the more likely it did seem though. The reasoning I finally came to was, "What good is the paddock to the sheep if the shepherdess has no home?" So, to the left and below you see what the paddock used to look like before the construction started. The links below take you to the progressive building of our home. |

Building our new Home |
The house is a 25' x 50' building on top of a 25' x 25' walkout basement. It will have catherdral ceilings, a totally open floor plan and the ability to add additonal rooms in the future. |
The final product so far, a basement floor. |
And then it rained and rained and rained; a total of 7.5 inches. This is what it looked like. |
Day 15 No pics, just some plumbing and securing of the walls. |
Then, of course, the construction continued, but I lost my telephone service, then my internet service and so I've not updated my web site since that time. My phone loss occured around the end of September. A call to my provider, CenturyTel produced no good solution. Their solution was to charge me an arm & leg to come 'fix' it. I knew from past experience that it was not my issue, but something they had probably done at the substation. About 2+ weeks after my phone stopped working, then my internet stopped working. (Of course I get my internet through the phone company.) However, I heard in town that everyone had lost internet service. Ah Ha, my problem was about to be resolved. Sure enough, in 2 days time, everyone's internet service worked, and remarkably, so did my telephone. Gosh I wish I had another choice for phone service other than CenturyTel. On to the Construction These next group of pictures are the WINDOWS!! Yea, Windows! Windows The next thing was 'extending' the power lines to the new location. I love watching big heavy equipment work. Power Lines |
Then came all the siding, soffits and doors. The painting of the doors and frames, walls and ceilings. The Outside Stuff The Inside stuff The Flooring & Moving IN !!! |
